I don't use the Trumpet newsreader so this might not be
correct, but I suspect that it follows the precedent of
'rn'.
A 'reply' is a private message to the writer of the article.
A 'followup' is another article based on the article.
Much of what is posted on the net seems to be a mistake.
A 'followup' was done when a 'reply' would have been
appropriate.

It SHOULD be automatic, but real-world tests indicate that's not always
the case. Assuredly, if the terminal server or server software is
supporting the PPP protocol exactly, then this should be true. In
reality, a few vendors don't, and, at that point, some other mechanism
is needed (generally some form of scripting).

Yes, you need dial-up IP (SLIP/PPP over a regular phone line) or a real
network connection to run programs like Mosaic.

It took this twit a month to setup Trumpet Winsock as a slip client?...and now
he wants people to pay him to help them setup winsock? Is this supposed to be
some really stupid joke? Trumpet Winsock has got to be one of the easiest to
install pieces of networking software I've ever seen.
I spent about 2 weeks setting up a slip Server on an old PC. I got
considerable help from Karl-Heinz Weis...for free. Once it started
working, I posted messages on Usenet and Tattam's NNTP site telling people
everything they need to know in order to duplicate my setup. I've even got
all the necessary files including a long "KA9Q cookbook" in the nos dir on my
slip/ftp/mail server. I suppose I should now add a copyright to my cookbook
and forbid anyone to sell or accept "donations" in exchange for Karl's and my
work.
For anyone interested in the KA9Q nos slip server, please don't email me with
questions until you've read my slip.txt. It's available on
inorganic5.chem.ufl.edu in the nos dir.
